Abilene, Kansas is lucky enough to have all 3 of the railroad depots that once served it still standing and in use. Here's a view of the former CRI&P (Rock Island) depot, which is located on the site of the Old Abilene Town, a tourist attraction containing a series of buildings designed to replicate the look and feel of the town in the 1800s. This depot also functions as headquarters of the Abilene & Smokey Valley Railroad, a non-profit organization that operates over 10 miles of track between Abilene and Enterprise, Kansas. |
